PERSONAL MATTERS
The Hon. D. T. Fleming, M.L.C., and the Hon. D. Bu'ddo, M.P., returned to Wellington this morning. Professor Shelly, Canterbury College, was a, passenger this morning by. the Maori from Lyttelton. Mr. H. T. Armstrong, M.P., returned from the South this morning. Commander R. .T. Buchanan, D.5.0., R.N., is in Wellington staying at the Midland. 'The Mayor (Mr.' C. B. Norwood), who was taken ill last Friday, is making satisfactory progress, but will not be able to resume his civic or business duties this week. The doath occurred , at Palmerston . North yesterday of an old resident of New Zealand in the person of Mr. Nils Petterson, aged 84. Deceased came to New Zealand fifty-three years ago. He* walked from Wellington to the Mauriwatu, where he made his home? He continued in excellent health till a. month ago, when he was compelled to take to> his bed. The Key. U. E. Tempest, M.A., arrived in Wellington hy the Tainui on Monday. Mr. Tempest is one of the staff of the clergy of St. Mark's Church, arid has been on furlough in England. He is returning to take up his work in the Melanesian Mission next week, and is staying at St. Mark's Vicarage. Mr. Tempest will -preach at St. Mark's Church both morning and> evening on next Sunday.
