DE LUXE THEATRE.

"East of Suez," now showing at the De Luxe Theatre, is a fascinating screen play, written by Sada Cowan, from Somerset iiaugham's stage success. It tells a thrilling story of sinister intrigue in the Orient. The evil of Chiua, the social ostracism of those who mate with Chinese, and whose children are Eurasians, form the background for the. plot.. l'ohi Nogri, who takes the part ol Daisy Forbes, has never appeared to greater advantage .or been offered the opportunity for greater dramatic acting than in this picture. The star is capably supported by Edmund Lowe, Rockliffe Fellowes, and Noah Beery. The theatre breathed the atmosphere of the Orient, the lights' being decorated with strings of Chinese, lanterns, and the attendants being • garbed in Oriental costume. Yellow was the predominant colour scheme, and the incidental music helped to create the atmosphere of the languorous East. The outstanding selections presented by the orchestra, under Mr. L. D. Austin, were "Egyptian Ballet" (Luigine), played as an overture, and "Chinese Wedding Procession" (Hosmer), played as an entr'acte. Readers and admirers of Zane Grey's writings have something to look forward to, for Paramount has picturised ono of his most famous stories, "The Thundering Herd," and the photoplay is scheduled to make its appearance at the De Luxe Theatre next Friday. _ The film version of this epic novel dealfe with a picturesque phaso of .early American history. The leading roles have been assigned to Jack Holt, Lois Wilson, Noah Beery, and Raymond fiatton. In conjunction with this picture, special music will be rendered by the De Luxe Or- ■ chestra, under the musical direction of Mr. L-. D. Austin, Box plans will be atjThe Bristol, Aitken's Book Aroade, and the theatre. There will be matinees on Saturday. . I
