All the English competitors \ve»e successful, though Mrs. .Lambert Chambers and Miss Harvey were ' carried' into extra sets. Miss Joan Try ' scored love sets, and Miss M'Kane dropped only two games. Miss E. L. Colyer triumphed in straight sets. Miss Fry and Miss M'Rsme are in the same haif'after the draw, and are expected to provide- the feature game of the tournament, competing for attention in the final,' in which Miss Ryan and Miss '/ Helen Wills are expected to contend. Tennis experts declare that they -havo nn even chance for the title.
Miss Helen Jacobs, California's natipnnl girl champion, made an. auspicious start in the senior competition, defeating -> Mrs. Harry Biekle (Toronto), the former Canadian champion, 6-0, 6-3.
