A NIGHT IN A TREE
TO ESCAPE WILD PIGS.
(If miOKAPB SPECIAL TO TB» POIT.)
PALMERSTON N., This Day. Two youths who set out from Palmerston North on Sunday on shooting bent little thought that before they were to return home'they'would participate in an" exciting episode which might well have tried the nerves of their elders, but which has left them unconcerned. Armed with a pea rifle, they made their way on bicycles to the neighbourhood of Taika Reserve. There they went in pursuit of rabbits. Their line of search led them into the bush, where coming into close contact with wild piers rather upset their programme, they being compelled to take refuge in a tree. There they were - marooned until darkness set in. Fully aware of the difficulty and danger. which faced them in any attempt to find their way out, the pair, whose ages are about seventeen and sixteen respectively, wisely decided to remain where they were. With the passing of an unenviable night they made their way out to open country homewards, their arrival greatly relieving the minds .of their parents, who had become considerably-perturbed by their absence. Despite the experience which they had undergone, they apparently- were" none the worse the next day, the elder of the adventurers having returned to work.
