QUIET WORK AT RICCARTON
(bi mio»APH,—runs associatioh.) CHRISTCHUKCH, This Day. Heavy rain fell again last night, and there were pools of water lying on places inside the couree at Riccarton. The work done was not exciting. White Comet beat Heisler in the best five-furlong gallop of the morning. Serene did five furlongs alone well. Ethiopian and Muzzle jumped two hurdles smartly. Puwhero went well over" three steeplechase fences. Solway, Rob, and Ecuador, separately, did five furlongs. Musical and Blue Peter did six furlongs together. Erie beat Passin' Through over six furlongs. . Deucalion did a working gallop over a mile, and Pompey covered half a mile comfortably. Sun Up and Tarleton, separately, did 'short sprint«. Santiago finished in front of Killocra at the end of seven furlongs. Kuhio and Anticipate were well matched over half a mile. Charlatan went twice round, the second at a strong pace. Tigerland did a. working gallop over a mile, and Uncle Bob similar v;ork. Sir Rosebery trotted in the middle of the course. Boomerday went easy over once round, and appears greatly improved. Bachelor Gay easily beat Ahika over five furlongs. A large number of other horses did useful pace work. Bonecto arrived from the North yesterday. The course proper was drying up well till yesterday, when a heavy rainfall again made it very soft.
