TAWA FLAT DEVIATION
CONSTRUCTION OF SEA WALL,
Tbe fact that the Public-Works Department is calling for tenders in connection with the Tawa Flat railway deviation does not necessarily mean that it Is intended to commence operations at an early date.
The Public Works Department is endoavouring to secure quantities of stone for the new sea wall .along the shore of the harbour necessitated by the extra line for main northward traffic. The wall will be about 60 chains long, and will be built some yards further out in the water than where the present retaining wall stands. The spoil from the eastern end of the proposed tunnel will then be used for filling-in out to the wall. The construction of the wall will be one of the first operations in connection with the deviation, but for the moment tenders are being called inertly in nrcler to be sure of having sufficient material for the wall in hand for the roimncnceniciit of aclivitips wlien the time arrives.
