ISLAND BAY SCHOOL

With a view to raising, funds to provide various fornu of recreation for the scholars, the Island Bay School Committee organised a concert, which was held in the Masonic Hall on Thursday evening before a crowded house. As a means< of- stimulating interest, a series of competitions was arranged, and the successful competitors were as follow:— Crossword puzzle, F. B. Chorland; children's essay competition, Standard 2, Betty Smith; Standard 3, Edna Ingram; Standard 4, Gerald Lyon; Standard 5, IJelen Sinel; Standard 6, T. Reader. During the interval the chairman of the committee, Mr. H. H. Flanagan, presented the prizes, and briefly expressed the thanks of. the school committee to all who had assisted to make the concert such a success. The programme submitted was of a very high standard and; greatly enjoyed by all present. The performers were members of the Tramway Entertainers, including the Tramway Orchestra, Stan Philpott (lightning sketch)) W, Irwin (comic Bong), Eila Liardet (step dance), R. Ramsay (comic song), Barry and Blight (specialty act), J. Cannon (ventriloquist), Miss E. Flaws (ballad), Barry and Martin (step dance), PhiJpott and Barnsay (humorous duo), Eo and Worth, (song and dance duo), and a finale by the company. As a result of this effort, it is hoped to obtain a considerable.amount of money, all of which will be expended by the committee for the benefit of the school children of Wand Bay.
