KILLED AT LYTTELTON
PROBABLE RESULT OF BREAKDOWN IN LIGHTING.

CHRI&TCHURCH 7th August. The failure of the lighting system is believed to be responsible for a fatality which occurred at Lyttelton to-night, when a man was killed on the Ferry Wharf. A light engine waß pushing a mail van on to' the wharf, when the shunter folt a bump under the wheels. Investigation revealed ' the mangled body of a man. The body has not been identified, but in th& pocket of the coat was found a steerage steamer ticket made out in the name of Moore. It is believed that the victim was a seafaring man, lately a member of the crew of the Karetu, which is at present in Dunedin
