BACKBLOCKS EDUCATION
CORRESPONDENCE TUITION.
An appeal for greater facilities for the education of children in the backblocks on the correspondence principle was put forward by Sir George Hunter (Waipawa) in the House of Representatives yesterday.
Sir George Hunter commended tho success of the system as far as it had gone, but he had received applications from parents who were desirous that their children should have the weans of tuition under the system, the success of which was attested by the fact that at the present time the Department was not able to meet the demands made upon it in that respect. He hoped that the Minister, having regard to the fact that the system had proved a success, would make provision to increase the number of correspondence pupils receiving tuition above the total of 500 at which ji stood at present.
