The weekly report on the roads of the North Island, prepared by the Wellington Automobile Club, in cdnjunction with the Aard Motor Service, is as follows :—

Sec. 2 (Wellington to Foxton to Bulls)— 100 miles. Five hours (seu Sec. 1) to Levin. Levin to Foxton poor. Thence good to hulls. Sec. 3 (Foxton to Pal. N.)—24 miles. Due hour. Eoad good. Soo, 4 (Bull* to Talhape>-50 miles. Two hours and a half. Itoad good, but travelling ia slow over last '20 miles owing to hilly country. Sec. 5 (Talhape to Raotihi)—No report. Sec. 6 (Bulls to Wanganui)—3o miles; V, hours. Road very good. Sec. 7 (Wanganui to Raotihi)—No report. Sec. 8 (Raetihi to Taurmaranul to Ta Kuiti) —Impassable. Sec. 9 (Ta Kuiti to Hamilton to Pokeno)— Kuiti to Hamilton, 52 miles; 2i hours. Jtoad fair and all metalled; balance no * report. Sec. 10 (Pokeno to Auckland)—No report. W.C.A. AREA 2—VIA TARANAKI

Sec. 11 (Wanganui to New Plymouth)—nu miles; 4 hours. Eoad fair to good. Sec. 12 (New Plymouth to Te Kultl)-iO3 miles; 5£ hours. Tar scaled or metalled. ffi Vory pot-holed between Urenui and Mt. Messenger; balance fair to good. Section 13 (Auckland to Whangarei)—l2o miles; 8 hours. Almost impassable ia places. No metal on long stretches; chains required. Will improve iv finer voatlicr. Sec. 14 (Auckland to Helentville to Dargaville) —1"5 miles; 9 hours. Badly potholed, between Henderson and Avondale, which is now being concreted. From live miles out of Helcnsvillc practically inipassahlo to Muungaturoto. Tuenco good to Dargavlllc. Sec. 15 (Oargaville to Kaltaia)-— U miles; 2 hours. Very fair road, liable to flood easily.

W.A.C. AREA 3—EAST COAST AND TAUPO

Sec. 16 (Wellington to Masterton to Napier) —221 miles; 8 hours. Pot-holed half-mile south Jlungaroa. Pot-holed and patchy Featherston • to. Masterton; ' good elsewhere except at Te Aute, which is dangerously potriioled, aud should have been repaired earlier than this. Sec. 17 (Palmertton North to Woodville)— If miles; 1 hour. Good road. Inquire at AAHD, Palmerston North or Woodville, or Wellington Automobile Club if any slips in wet weather. Sec. 18 (Napier to Wairoa to Olsborne)—ls7 miles; SJ hours. Eoad has improved undor fine weather, and is now good to Morere. Remainder patchy to rough. Sec. 19 (Napier to Taupo)—loo miles; 6i hours. Road good. Carry chains in case of unexpected rain. Sec. 20 (Taupo to Waimarlno)—S4 miles; 8 hours. Very bad during winter. Chains required. Sac. 21 (Taupo to Rotorua)—s6 miles; 8} hours. Road lairly good, pumice formation. Very rough Waiotapu to Kotorua. Sec. 22 (Whakatane to Clsborne)—l37 miles; 0 to 7 hours. Eoad to Motu good, but liable to slips. Motu to Gisfcorne^impassable. Cars may bo trained daily at a cost of about 355. Sec. 23 (Gieborne to Hicki Bay)— lmpassable. Unmctalled 18 miles between Wliangaroa and Tolago Bay. Usually open Oisborne to Teararoa from October. Rc r mainder seldom open. Sac. 24 (Taupo to .Atiamurl)—24 miles; 2 hours. Very fair. Carry chains in case of rain. Sec, 25 (Rotorua to Tirau to Hamilton) —No report. S«c. 26 (Whakatane to Tauranga to Walhi) —110 miles; 7 hours. At this time of year chains are required most of way. Whaka-tane-Tauranga passable all year. Tauranga to Waihi in frightful condition. AAKD oars -arc only ones Retting through and have a system of aid from horse teams. Sec, 27 (Hamilton Tauranga)—Good metal road. Sec. 28 (Walhl to Pokeno)—ss miles; 4 hours. Good metal road to Turua, thence to Miranda very bad (clay). From Miranda to Maramarua being metalled. Remainder good.
