COUNTRY CHILDREN'S VISITS
Sir George Hunter (Waipawa) asked the Minister of' Internal Affairs in the House of Representatives yesterday whether provision was going to be made to bring children from country districts into the ports to 'be visited by the American fleet in order that the children might see the ships. The Hon. R. F. Bollard replied that the Government had not received any applications for the conveyance of children from country districts. When the Special Service Squadron was here several societies interested themselves in the welfare of the children. It was too late now to do anything, but if children came to town to see the ships the Government would do what it could to afford them the opportunity of going on board. Mr. J. A. Nash (Palmerston North): "Will they arrange for special trains?" . Mr. Bollard: "That is a matter for the Railway Department."
