The.Lord'Mayor of London was the principal guest at a civic banquet at Verdun on the ninth' anniversary of the battle of Verdun. M. Poincaire, in a speech, said he believed -London's generosity in adopting Verdun was not a demonstration of- passing sentiments, but a brilliant testimony of unshakeable friendship. Verdun's citizens realised the- sympathies and interests closely uniting.the two countries. Ho therefore toasted the perennial alliance of the British and French people.
