The provincial conference, of the 'Dairy Farmers' Union was held at Carterlon ou Thursday, Mr. M. Roberts (president) in the chair. .THe report and balancesheet, disclosing a successful, anil active season, -were adopted^ Officers., as-fol-. low were elected:— President.,' Mr. B. Roberts; vice-president, Mr. A. J. Giddings ; executive, Messrs. E. H. Crookendeu, R. M'Garry, M. Eton, J. A. Ordisli, G. Shirtcliffe,'- W.. Fryer, H. J. Jones. J.AV. Henderson. W. "Wilson. W. X, Diiysb, K. Ellis, anil W. Hall. 'The ward system of election to the Dairy Control Board, and absolute control was endorsed, and Messrs. Grounds and Motion congratulated .upon ■ their election. The conference placed on record its appreciation cf the assistance rendered by the State Advances Office, and the Government is to be asked to increase the advances. The principle of a national herd-testing association was endorsed, and the Government urged to grant the subsidy of Is per cow as being asked for. The conference affirmed the.'principle of production values as the- only values the dairy farmer's can work on, and supported every legitimate effort to remove inflated land values. Messrs. Eton, Roberts, and Giddings were appointed delegates /to the Dominion conference. At a meeting of the executive held later, Mr. K. Ellis was elected secretary.

At' a meeting of the Wairarap'a High School Board yesterday, the principal (Dr. G. H. Uttley) reported that during the recent heavy rain the school building had leaked badly. Tho water came through the walls near the stairs, as well as in the library, staff-room, cloakrooms, and corridors. The windows of the new wing allowed the water to conic in. Several more slates had come off the roof, and the boiler-room was in its usual wet state. After a, short discussion on the defects of the building, it was decided to ask the Department's architect to come and make a report.. At a meeting of the Masterton Beautifying Society last night letters were received fuoin the-Trust Lands Trust and Borough Council, advising that they had made grants of £75 and £100 respectively to the society. A comprehensive programme of town beautifying was adopted. It was decided to proceed with the laying out of the section in Essex street recently-presented by Mrs. Maunsell. Expenditure was authorised ns follows :—Bigg Brothers' corner. £5 : Essex street section. £50: metal pit* at Church street and -high'-.street £50Knripimi triangle. £30; island in Park! £10. The Street Planting Committee was authorised t 0 spend £150. It was reported that preparations for the lose garden, m the Park were well forward, and 400 rose trees were, required, and it was decided to make an appeal for donations of trees.
