POSITION UNCERTAIN
I AXTI-FOEKION STRIKES IN - CHINA, ! (Ucceivcd 20th June, 11 a.m.) PEKIN-, 19th June Students at lehang are promoting an anti-foreign sU'ike. Kuikiang, Ku'lang. and Chinkiang are quiet. At Nanking' tho position is uncertain. There is much suppressed excitement, which necessitates continued precautions. The considerable unrest' which prevails jeopardises tho position of British, American, and Japanese residents.
■ Reports from Hankow state that the Chinsp. authorities at Chunkiang allowed the strikers to get, out of hand, and many foreigners took, refuge on board gunboats.
Foreign telegrams from Hankow, however, speak of the riols at Chungkiang on Wednesday as though tho acutn trouble had passed, and the absence of further wireless reports from naval sources at Cliungkiang endorses this
