HUGE PROFITS
MADE BY TOBACCO COMBINE.
The immense profit of £8,365,168 was earned by the Imperial Tobacco Company (of Great Britain and Ireland) during the past year, states an English paper. It is nearly £1,000,000 in excess of the net income for tho previous twelve months. Each year for a long period the profits of the combine have grown at a rapid rate, and high dividends and valuable share bonuses have been received by the fortunate shareholders. Tin's is tlio record of-net trading profit for the last four years .-—1921 £6.925.005; 1922, £7.194.557; 1923 £7,467,920; 1924, £8,365.168. The dividend on the ordinary shares for 1924 amounts to 22^- per cent., which contrasts with 20' per cent, for 1923; but the actual payment is larger, because the capital .was increased in tfie latter year by a free share bonus e(ju:il to 35" 1-3 per cent. The actual sum distributed among tlio ordinary shareholders is increased by £748,791, to £6,739,131. Previous capital bonuses have consisted of payments of 100 per cent, and 50 per cent., and the issued ordinary capita.! on which the present rale of dividend is provided is approximately £30,000,----000. in addition to the dividend payments-, very large sums have been placed to reserves, whioh now total £5.500.000 tsftor providing fur the special dictributions,.
