THREATENING WEATHER

DISTUEBANCE MAY WORK SOUTH,

According to the meteorological chart to-day, there are elements which are likely to have a further disturbing effect upon the weather generally. " Some gales were in evidence north of Auckland this morning, and a disturbance was apparently located to the north-west of the Dominion, this accounting for a falling barometer, especially in the North. The Director of the Meteorological Office (Mr D. C. Bates) reports that the weather has become dull arid misty generally, and that rain was falling this morning in the far North, and also in a few other parts of the country. Easterly winds have predominated. Conditions are threatening, particularly in the Northern districts, and a forecast for stormy weather, principally for the North Island, have bedii sent out. More heavy rain and floods are likely to follow in the North. It is possible that the disturbance will work its way south during the next thirty-six hours, and rain may follow generally. Snow may be expected on the higher levels in the South. The state of the seas round the coast is expected to bs unfavourable, heavy seas being likely north of East Cape and thence to Kaikoura, jnd rough seas elsewhere. Easterly,'winds are' probable generally—strong to gale and backing to northerlies north of East Cape and Ka'.fhia, increasing strong to gale thence to Hokitika and Lyttelton, and moderate to strong and increasing elsewhere. The barometer should fall further, especially in the North.
