SUBSIDY FOR RRITISH OPERATION. ' '

(UNITED PKEES ASSOCIATION COPTRIGHT ) (SYDNEY SU.N CABLE.) (Received 27th May, 11 a .m.)

LONDON, 26th May.

The Government has authorised the Air Ministry to proceed with the organisation of a 2500-miles passenger and mail aeroplane service between Egypt and India, to form one of the central links on the Empire service. The Air Ministry is offering a subsidy of £80,000 a year for a British firm to operate on the route, and is expressing the wish that the Dominions' pilots, navigating officers, and ground staffs, shall, as far as possible, be employed to assist in the future development of the Australasian, Indian, and Canadian commercial air services.

The Air Ministry has placed orders for giant three-engiued aeroplanes, to be ready in the autumn, to convey passengers and mails to Ismalia and Baghdad from which DGSO machines will proceed to Karachi via Basra.
