The president, Mr. F. Meadowcroft. presided over the fortnightly meeting of the committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which was held on Monday last, and was well attended.

The inspector, in reporting upon his activities since the previous meeting, dealt with a number of crises of alleged cruelty which had been investigated. The majority of the cases concerned cruelty to horses in and around the city, and in which instances steps had been taken to insure better treatment for the animals in the future. Visits had also been paid to Kaitoke and Feathersfon.
