KING'S THEATRE.

The story of picture-struck youth is contained in "Merton of the. Movies," tli© main attraction nt the King's Theatre this week. It is not long before he is disenchanted, for he soon learns that the necessary qualifications for an actor include more than a "desire to do better things." A pretty member of the "Buckeye Comedy Co." rescues him' and with her aid"Merton obtains work. He thinks he is acting for a drama, but the producer has different ideas,'and when Merton finds that his dramatic work has been used in making the most successful comedy of the year he is overcome with shame. • A reconciliation, however, follows. Glenn Hunter and Viola Dana take the leading parts. The programme includes good supports, and appropriate selections are contributed by the orchestra. "The Mad Whirl," an all-star production which will be shown on Friday next, deals primarily with ■ the divergent views of two families, one feverishly seeking pleasure and tli6 other living a placid, well-balanced life. The story deals with the relationship between parents and children, purposing to show that it has suffered by the method of life indulged in by the parents and their disregard for and lack of reverence shown by the- younger generation for the older. May M'Avoy is the featured player of the cast, which includes such Widely known screen favourites as Jack Mulhall, Myrtle S.tedman, Barbara Bedford, Alee B. Francis, Ward Crane, George Fawcett, Marie Astaire, and Joseph Singleton. In conjunction with this super-production the management has been fortunate in securing Manuel Hyman (late of ,th& Ritz Hotel, London) and his talented jazz musicians in a fascinating exposition of "Jazz Up to Date." The box plan for the entire season is now open at The Bristol.
