NEW ZEALAND APPLES

THE HOTORUA SHIPMENT,

LONDON, 9th April. The first consignment of New Zealand apples this season arrived by the Eotorua, and it has been unloaded in time for partial disposal before the Eaßter holidays. There were 6277 cases altogether. Of these one firm handles 3658 eases, another 1519, two others about 120 cases each, and two a. smaller number still.

■All the fruit appears to havo arrived in good condition, at least from what oio can gather from the examination of a sample of cadi variety.. Cox's are distinctly in good condition, Jonathans arc hard and unuruiscil, though a little on the green side. Worcesicrs seem to have suffered a little, and show a little c.iso-bruising. It is reported also t!i;:t there have been slight traces of bitter pit, but not enough to affect prices.' During this week 300.000 ca.-e.s of African soft'frails have arrived in I.n:<(Jon, so that (lie Xow Xv.'.h-Mil fruit lias a certain amount of competition.
