ROYAL CHORAL UNION.
Probably no work of Haydn's is so well known as his oratorio, "The Creation." It abonnds in effective solos, trios, and splendid choruses, one of the latter bein gj the popular "The Heavens are Telling. The performance takes place at the Town Hall next Saturday night, under the baton of Mr. H. Temple White. Haydn's masterpiece, on which he spent two years, was first sung in England in 1800, and since then has been rendered in all parts of the world by musical societies. An exceptionally strong cast of principals has been selected, headed by Mr. Harison Cook, the English basso cantante, who has a voice of remarkable range. Mrs. J. p. Woodward will sing the soprano role, while the tenor solos will be undertaken by Mr. J. Hadland, of Greymouth. A full rehearsal will be held at St. John's Schoolroom to-night at 8, and the final rehearsal at the Town Hall on Friday. The box plan opens at The Bristol at' 9 o'clock to-morrow jnoriunc,
