SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION

TEACHERS' TRAINING-CLASS.

The monthly meeting of the Sunday School Union was held in the Baptist schoolroom, Vivian street, on Thursday. Mr. H. D. Grocott, president, was in, the chair, and there was a good attendance of teachers.

Mr, J. Reid, B.A.'/gave an address on "The Relation of the School to tho Church." He stated that the teachers were far too modest, and did not make their wants sufficiently known to ' the church officials. The responsibility for the buildings and equipment for the schools should rest with the Church officials primarily, and secondly with the minister. About Wellington the smaller denominations seemed to give more attention to the schools than did the larger,' which would mean that in future years they would progress at a greater rate than those churches which were inclined to neglect • their schools. Mr. Reid ndded that he had visited Christchurch during Easter, ■ and had taken part in a series of teachers' meetings. He said the enthusiasm was wonderful, and they had attendances up to 300. He warned the teachers that Wellington was likely to lag behind the other three centres in the matter of Sunday school organisation,

The Rev. E. I\ Blamires, -who devotes tho whole of his lime to Sunday school and Bible-class Wk for the -Methodist Church, has arranged to give a scries of lectures in Wellington and Lower Hutt on Sunday school teaching next month. A general invitation has been given to teachers of all schools to attend these lectures.

The Sunday School Union.has arranged for a teacher-training class. This will bo conducted by Mr. J. Beid; 8.A., and, judging by the success of Mr. Reid's class last winter, it in anticipated that there will bo » record enrolment of workers for this year. Tho Wellington Presbyterian Association of Sunday School Teachers and the Salvation Army will cooperate vith tho union in' this matter.
