WELLINGTON SOUTH
PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION ■ ■•■ 3IEETS.
Several important matters were discussed at the monthly meeting of the executive of the Wellington South Progressive Association. It was decided to call attention to the urgent importance of rounding the- corner of Constable and Eiddiford streets, owing to the volume' of traffic which passes there daily. This work, it was stated, had been promised for two or three years. The state of Wilson street, which is practically a main road, and was oil the list of urgent works in the loan, proposals, was discussed. In winter it was a quagmire, and in sumer or fine days the dust was blinding. The necessity for the laying of a permanent surface was urgent. Remark was made of-the speed of motor and tram traffic through parts of the main streets, to the danger of a number oE children, who must use tho streets to and from the various schools. It was thought that the speed could be controlled.
The absence of newspapers from tlie chief centres in the Public Library read-ing-room was considered. A representation is to bo made on the subject. The matter of the tram time-table to the city was thought capable of improvement, as the ears from the three routes, 1, 3, and -1, frequently meet almost simultaneously at Riddiford and Eintonl streets junction, leaving a lapse of time without means of getting to the city, whereas, it was contended, by a little rearrangement the cars could be scheduled so as to pass that point at short intervals.
_ The secretary reported that the petition to the council in regard to the "renaming of Waterloo avenue was duly acknowledged by the Town Clerk, but apparently had not yet been dealt with by the council. Congratulatory reference was made to the election results of the local residents who stood for the Hospital Board and the City Council, and the hope expressed that that part of tho city would be properly represented on the council after the next' poll.
