PUBLIC NOTICES. ROYAL COMMISSION ON UNI.VERSITY KDUCATION TT IS HEREBY~NOTIFIED that His ■M. Excellency the Governor-General has appointed Sir Harry Rudolf Keichel, Xt and F. Tate, Esq., M.A., C.M.U., as il Loiiimissioii on University Education. Xhe Order of Reference is as follows(1) The present facilities for University Education in New Zealand. (2) The working of the present organisation of the University of New Zealand, its affiliated Colleges, and :e- ---. cognised Professional Scliools. (3) The constitution of the University Senate, together with the question of whether special interests, such as Agriculture, Industry, and Commerce, should be represented on the Senate. (4) The question of whether the present system of tour Colleges federated under the New Zealand University is satisfactory or is capable o£ improvement. In particular, whether each of the present lour University Colleges should become a separate University, ami it so, . under what coiuliuoiia. (5) The standard and scope o£ the degree aucl othur examinations conducted by tho University. (6) 'llio question, of whether University examinations should be conducted by internal or external examiners, or by a combination oi botii. (7) 'lhc question oi accrediting students for enu-anco to the University in lieu of tho Matriculation examination. (8) Tho relation of University Education to that provided in secondary and technical schools. (9) The provision that should be mode in Now Zealand tor .University teaching and research. (10) Any other matters concerning higher education which the Commissioners would feel worthy of report to the Government. Tho Commission will commence the taking of evidence, approximately, as follows :- Wellington—lßth June and 28th July. Auckland—29th June. Christchurch—3th July. Bunedin—l7th July. Persons desiring to give evidence should notify their intention of so doing to the Secretary of the University Commission, C/o Education Department, Wellington, not later than the 10th JUNE, indicating at the same time the centre at which they can attend. Each witness will be informed of tho approximate date on which his evidence will be heard, together with the place and hour of meeting. Persons who cannot attend the sittings of the Commission may, if they so dosire, forward a written statement to the Secretary of the Commission. JNO. CAUGHLEY, Director of Education.
