FRANKLIN BY-ELECTION

LABOUR- CANDIDATE SELECTED.

(BI TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

AUCKLAND, 22nd May. It is still impossible to announce the date of the by-election for the Franklin seat, as no information has been received as to when the writ will be issued. The unfortunate position that has arisen through the presence of two Reform candidates in.the field has now been cleared up. Both the Eev. W. C. Wood and Mr. E. D. M'Lennan, -who have been anounced as candidates, have pledged themselves to allow the Auckland Executive of the Reform Party to arbitrate between them, and to abide by the result. It was reported this evening that Mr." J. S. Montgomerie, of Mangere, had been selected as the official Labour candidate.

As far as can he ascertained, no definite action has yet been taken by the Liberal Party in the matter of selecting a candidate. . °
