TROTTING NOTES

FIXTURES. May 30—Hawkes Bay T.C. Annual. June 3 and G—Canterbury Park T.C. Winter. June 3 and 6—South Wairarapa T.C. Annual. June 12 and 13—Ashburton T.C. Winter.

(By -"Vedette.") Acceptances for the Hawkes Bay Meeting are due on Monday, and for the South Wairarapa Meeting on Friday. The resignation of Mr. P. Selig from the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association is a matter for much regret. Mr. Selig, as a very disinterested devotee of light-harness racing, had given much time to its development and government. The fact that he is not an owner or interested in any club strengthened his hand enormously, and there is no risk in saying that as chairman of the board he discharged his duties without fear or favour. It- is these very last qualities which have earned the disapprobation of those who have caused his retirement, for no one will easily believe the euphemism that "he has retired owing to pressure of business." The government of trotting requires a thorough overhaul, the Association needs revising and strengthening, not weakening, and Mr. Selig's loss is decidedly a very great one. His coterie of enemies may nave achieved some personal satisfaction, but there is no doubt it is at the expense of trotting. . Acron is said to be building up well, and a win for this brilliant pacer is predicted in the very near future. A Southern writer stales that the several trainers of Great Bingen consider that he is one of the fastest, if not the actual fastest, pacer in the Dominion. The Ameripan-bred trotter Beal Guy is doing well, aud is being prepared to race at Canterbury Park. If the next New Zealand Trotting Cup is confined to horses of 4.28 class, the following arp eligible : Away, Dolly Dil- ■ lon, Ahuriri, Alto Chimes, First Carbine, Acron, Taraire, Logan Chief, Great Bingen, Vilo, Eealm, Great Hope, Man o' War, Onyx, and Sheik. Mr. F. Bobson has purchased Logan Lass from K. J. Smith, and the latter in turn has bought Landlord from Mr. Bobson. Brutus has now gone, into A. Hendriksen's stable. i The unhoppled pacer Don Wild is do-

ing well in his work, and is expected to race well at Addington next month. Man o' War has gone to his new owner's place at Cairnbrae. He may be a starter in the Free-for-All at Ashburton next mouth.
