MINING INDUSTRY
BEEIOUS PLIGHT DISCLOSED,
(ADSTSAUAS-NgW ZBAUND CABLI ASSOCIATION.)
(Received 22nd May, 2.30 p.m.)
LONDON, 21st May. How badly the extremists wore routed is revealed by official figures of the voting at the Miners* Conference at Blackpool, at which 571,000 to 230,000 sidestepped a motion for the preparation of new wages demands. The executive threw their weight in favour of inaction. ■ No doubt the result of the disclosure of the serious plight of the industry at the owners and miners' joint conference, which will now further investigate a solution of the slump, affected the vote. The next interesting test of strength between the militants and the moderates will be the union's conference on 4th June, which will discuss a revival of the triple alliance.
