TO "CARRY ON" MEANWHILE.

AUCKLAND, 21sfc May. • A special meeting of ths Auckland Rugby Referees' Association was held to-night in connection with the- situation that had arisen through the voicing of a protest at last week's meeting of tha Management Committee of -the Auckland Rugby Union against the appointment of Mr. G. Pearce' as referee for the Marist Old Boys-Grammar Old Boys senior match last Saturday. A letter conveying, the resolutions, passed at a/ meeting of the Rugby Union Management Committee last evening was re* ceived. The union had decided to asfl the Appointments Board to "reconsiders its resignation, to notify all clubs thas any complaints against a referee muafi be lodged in writing, and that i; 4 future appointments by the board wouijj bo only received by the committee in^' stead of being received and confirmed.,The other two resolutions carried by] the committee were : "That in consequence of our omission to observe tlio resolution of the committeo dated 24th March, 1924, governing . complaints against referees, an expression of regret be tendered to the Referees' Association: from the committee as a whole, and noU from any individual member thereof.""That the committee expresses regreti to the Referees' Association, and to Mr. : Pearce that the matter should have beeq discussed under the circumstances." Mr. H. Cliffe, president of the associaj tion, detailed the matters placed befora the union by a deputation from the association last night. The following resolutions were car-* ried : "That the Appointments Board be requested to continue in office, and that in the interests of Rugby football all referees be requested to take the matches allotted to them on Saturday - that tho special meeting stand adjourn* ed until next Monday evening." Tho Appointments Board, at a. subse< quent meeting, decided to act in the) same spirit as the Referees' Association* and in the interests of players' and pub* lie to make appointments for Saturday, and bs guided as to its final' action by the decision of the" Referees'.
