WEALTHY NATION

DEAN INGE IN AMERICA

NO PLACE FOR A POOR MAN

'(UNITED PRBSS ASSOCIATION—COPTRIQHT.)

(Received 21st May, 9 a.m.)

LONDON, 20th May

Dean Inge, interviewed on his return from a leoturing tour in America, said the United States is really invulnerable, and can devote the whole of its enormous wealth to improving itself, whereas Europeans spend a quarter of their income upon burglary insurance—in other words, upon armaments. As regards wealth, Britain is nowhere compared with America. The people's prosperity is stupendous but spiritually dangerous. Nevertheless ho heard nothing about empty churches. "Interest in religion is not very strong, but it is growings I heard no slang. Educated Americans speak like ourselves.

"After a period of Prohibition, I am glad to get back to my cellar. I was only offered, and had, water while in America." Mrs. Inge added, "No one who is poor can live in America." Dean and Mrs. Inge travelled secondclass. ■ ' , .
