MR. P. SELIG TO RETIRE

FROM TROTTING ASSOCIATION

PRESIDENCY.

<»I TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

CHPJSTCHURCH, 20th May. Because he finds the pressure of business takes up a great deal of his time, Mr. P. Selig, president of the New Zealand Trotting Association, announced today at a meeting of the board that he did not again desire to be nominated for the position of president. He said that he had had 30 years' experience, and he thought it was time for a younger man to fill the position. Mr. Selig has been president since the association was formed over 20 years ago. and before that he was president of the South Island Trotting Association for some time. In announcing his intention, Mr. Selig said that the work of the association was growing daily, and had got to such a pitch that he could not now devote the necessary time to it. He would not mind doing the work if he had the time, but he had not, and it was imperative' that he should give it up. When he retired from business he did so to get leisure, but it seemed that ha had given up work to carry bricks, and he was not getting leisure. He had much private business to do, and might also be going away, so he considered that after 30 years he should give a younger man a chance. He wished to thank members for the loyal support given him. Ho mentioned that Mr. C. F. Mark (Auckland) was next in seniority, and Mr. H. W. Kitchingham also had" a great number of years of service.
