RELIEVING TEACHERS

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT'S

CIRCULAR,

BCBJ HJHN BY BVHGCV XDF

DDNEDIN, This Day. At a meeting of the Education Board, a circular was- received from the Education Department intimating- that in its opinion many of the relieving teachers employed were unnecessary. In a large school there should be no necessity to employ a relieving taacher when one of the teachers was away for a week, or even a month. In the case of sole-teacher schools, where the teacher was absent for a few days, or oven a week, no great loss to the school would ensue if the school were closed. The boards were requested to avoid employment of relieving teachers wherever possible.

The Chairman (Mr. J. Wallace) : "Some people in the Pepartment might get more* to do than find a lot of thesa mare's nests."

Jt was decided to inform the Department that the board was doing its best to keep its' relieving employment expenditure within the smallest limits, and that the board did not think that the Dcpartnien's circular had been occasioned by the course adopted by the board in the past.
