WOMAN CHARGED WITH THEFT.

A. bottle of whisky figured prominently in a case in the Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon, when a young married .woman named Delia GJorrie° was charged with the theft of a watch and chain, valued at £15 from James Frederick Linley, and with receiving an allegedly stolen chain and sovereign belonging to Linley. Linley, in evidence, said about 4 p.m., on 6th May, he met a man named O Regan in Molesworth street. Two women came along, and O'Regan introduced him to thq witness. "I suggested that I was going to Tinakori road to see a friend, and the accused said 'we ■jyiH 8° with you,' " said the witness. 'There were four of us," he continued. "We procured a bottle of whisky, and the accused said we would go to Queen's Park and pass an hour away. O'Regan and the other woman separated, and we sat down on the grass. The accused said to me, 'How about a spot, old sport?' and put the bottle up' to her mouth. I had a similar oiie. I felt drowsy, and put" my hand up to my head. The' accused said, 'Are you ill?' and ■began to rub my chest, and fan me to keep me cool. After she had been fanning me. for some time I woke up, and looked for my watch and chain,'and found they were missing. I saw ncr putting them into her handbag." Evidence was given as to the pawning of the articles', and the attempt at their recovery made by Linley and Gorrie. The accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed to tho Supreme Court for trial. She was represented by -Mr. N A. Foden.
