The first round of the 1925-26 'tourney for the championship of the Wellington Chess Club was got off last week, the results being as-follow:— G. P. Anderson J- v. W. E. Mason a. A, W. Gyles 1 v. E. A. Hicks 0, TI. CSodtsclialk 1 v E. S. Taylor 0, G. Wigham 1 v. B. Wild 0, and J. W. Simpson 1 v. A. L. Lawson 0. The other three games are outstanding. E. X Hicks is a pawn up v. T. Fouhy. vrhilo tho games W. J. Kairburn v. J. C. M'Crca and K. l?aulknor vi F. K. Kelling arc even. Two former champions, Messrs. W. Macksy- (president) and Ji.
