Many years ago Parliament House in Macquarie street was one of the architectural . glories of Sydney. It was ona of the monuments to those who in tha early days set out to fashion, out of tha wilderness, a great city. As -the first Parliament House in Australia, every effort has been made to preserve it ia something liko.a decent state of repair, but Time lias set its sea] upon it. Ever? now and again it is patched up and painted, but it his had its day, and plans are now talked of for the building of a new State Legislature, to cost about £250,000. By the time that a decisive; move is made with the new building, the old place will probably be ready just to fall over from the infirmities and. weaknesses of old age, but it is gratifying, except to those who have'such ai solemn and jealous regard for old things which even Time itself is.sometimes glad to forget, that a new Parliament House is at least talked about. The extension, however, of Martin place to Macquarie ttreat will probably give an impetus to the proposal, for a new Parliament House practically at tho top of the extended thoroughfare would be especially fitting. *•
