BOARD OF HEALTH

LOCAL MATTERS DEALT WITH.

A meeting of the Board of Health, was held in Parliamentary Buildings yesterday afternoon. Present: Dr. M. H. Watt ' (Acting-Director-Geueral of Health) in the chair, Sir Lindo Ferguson, Sir James Wilson, Lady Luke, Mr. M Fraser (New Plymouth), Hon. W. 11. Triggs, Dr. J. S. Elliott, Mr. F. W. Mac-Lean, and Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P. Sir M. Pomare (Minister of Health) could not be present owing to a meeting of Cabinet.

Before proceeding with the business, the board passed a vote of sympathy with Mrs. Massey. The board received a report from a special committee detailing the result of negotiations, with the Hokitika Borough Council regarding the installation of a refuse removal system in that borough, and of a drainage system. Decision on the matter was held over pending further advice from the Borough Council, which is to hold a special meeting to consider the matter shortly. Authority was given to the Heathcote Borough Council to raise a special loan of £700 for certain channeling work in Opaw.i road.

Authority was also given to the Wa■nganui Borough Council to raise a special loan of £5000 with which to make advances to property owners at Gonville and Castleelift so that these owners may have their residences connected with the borough drainage system. rlh« board also approved of regulations submitted by the Minister of Health dealing with the notification and treatment of venereal disease. These proposed regulations are summarised under another heading.

Messrs. Havcouvt and Co. will sell by auction at. their rooms to-morrow, at 1.30 p.m., a largo catalogue of oil paintings, water colours, and pictures, without reserve.
