PREFERS SILENCE

A FUNERAL INCIDENT.

(BI TELEBRAPH.—PKESS ASSOCIATION.)

DUNEDIN, This Day. Interviewed with reference to paragraph telegraphed from Wellington, appearing in the Chrislchurch "Sim," commenting on the Speaker's absence from the Prime Minister's funeral, and alleging that there was some difficulty over precedence, Mr. Statham says he attended the service in the vestibule, but was prevented by illness from taking part in the funeral procession, and was represented there by the Sergeant-At-Arms. As to any discourtesy shown the Speaker's office, Mr. Statham stated he preferred silence. It would be out of keeping with the solemn occasion for a discussion and controversy on the matter.
