Y.M.CA. CAMPAIGN

The V.M.C.A. financial campaign, the object of which is to raise the sum of £5000, commenced yesterday, when members o£ the Citizens' Campaign Committee, who are voluntarily undertaking the work of waiting .upon the citizens, met for lunch to report progress. In addition to the amount, already in hand (£1552 2s), the following gifts were reported:—A. B. Paterson and Co., E. P. Hay, and A. J. George, £25 each : T. C. Brash, £20; T. Kissel, J. W. Can-, T., H. Ronayne, A. M. Anderson, S. T. Silver, Dr. J. S. M'Lauvin, Mayer and Kean, W. G. Morpeth, Cathro, Eushbrook. ana Go., £2 2s each; H. Wall, £2; Mr. Blake, L. M. Silver, F.-Vosseler, C. M. Ellison, 0. T. Evans, H. J. Stott, J. A. Doherty, B. D. Vial, H. Boss, G. H. Scott, M. W. P. Lascelles, A. C. M'Kay, £1 Is each; E. C. Jack, 10s; C. U. Turner, ss; total to date, £1743 7a. _ Amongst the gifts received by the V.M.C.A. in connection with the campaign at present in progress was an unsolicited donation from a returned soldier who sent the following letter with his cheque:—"Please accept tho enclosed amount to assist, in small way, the big work you have undertaken. 1 can personally testify to the magnificent work of the N.Z.Y.M.C.A. during the war period in Egypt, France, Belgium, Germany, and in London. Like a host of New Zealanders who went, overseas I say ' Hats off " to the Y.M. for the splendid service rendered under most trying conditions. It can be said, the Y.M. never failed us. It gave >few Zealanders a new vision for what the V.M.C.A. stands for. Great work has been, and is being accomplished by the Y.M. in our owu favoured land,".
