.* i NEW ZEALAND RUGBY TEAM CHOSEN NEW SET OF PLAYERS BEING TRIED. The selection of the New Zealand team which is to visit New South Wales this season was completed last evening by tho selectors—^Messrs. E. M'Kenzie (Wairarapa), N. M'Kenzie (Hawkes Bay), W. A. Guy (Taranaki), H. Davies (Canterbury), and A. J. Geddes (Southland). There were over one hundred nominations for the twenty-three places in the team, but those 1 of members of the 1924 New Zealand team were not considered. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union recently the delegates did not approve of a suggestion that last year's representatives should be omitted from the team for Australia, but the selectors decided unanimously not to consider those members of; last year's team who had been nominated. Only two Wellington players secured places in the team. The selection was as follows:-—• Full-back: W. Harris (Canterbury) list 61b. - Three-quarters: W. Elvy (Canterbury) list 71b, J. Blake (Hawkes Bay) list, G. D. Wise (Otago) list, A. Law (Manawatu) 12st. , •• . ' ; Five-eighths: Matson (Auckland) list, R. Bell (Southland) 12st 41b, L. Johnson (Wellington) lOst 101b, G. P. Lawsoh (South Catnerbury) list 81b. Half-backs: D. Wright (Auckland) lOst 81b, T. Corkhill (Hawkes Bay) list.. Wing-forward: J. Donald (Wairarapa) 13st 61b (captain). ' ' Hookers: A. Lomas (Auckland) 13st 51b, A. Kirkpatriek (Hawkes Bay) list 121b, A. M'Cormack (Canter>:ry) 14st. Lock: L. Righton ( Auckland) 13st 81b. Other forwards: J. M'Nab (Hawkes Bay) lost 61b, L. Knight (Auckland) list, J. Walters (Taranaki) 13st 81b, M'K. Dlckson (Otago) 13st 81b, J. Archer (Southland) 13st 111b, B. Finlayson (North Auckland) 15st, A. Thomas (Wellington) 13st. Apart from members of last year's New Zealand team, ninety players were nominated for the twenty-three places in the team to visit New South Wales. The nominations came from all parts of the Dominion, and they were such as to provide a good sprinkling of players for every position. The unions to secure representation in the team and the number nf representatives are:—Auckland five, North Auckland one, Hawkes Bay four, Taranaki one, Manawatu one, Wairarapa one, Wellington two, Canterbury three, South Canterbury one, Otago two, and Southland two. Questioned regarding the non-inclusion of last year's New Zealand representatives, Mr. E. M'Kenzie stated that the selection committee decided unanimously to exclude those members of the 1924 team who had been nominated. It was not because they were not good enough, but the idea was to give the younger players an opportunity of Showing themselves. Mr. M'Kenzie added that a number of the unions were evidently under a misapprehension about the matter, as only five had nominated members of last year's New Zealand team. The players in the team for Australia now had a chance to prove themselves, and with this and the knowledge of last year's New Zealand representatives, tho selectors would have a wide range for the selection of the team to meet New South Wales' dnring the latter's visit to the Dominion later in the season. ASSEMBLY AND WELLINGTON MATCH. The members of the team are to assemble in Wellington on Monday, the Ist June. A match is to be played ■ufith the Wellington representatives at Athletic Park on the 3rd June.
