THE ALTERED NECKLACE

The pearl necklace is undergoing a change which has beon rendered necessary by the alteration in the neckline of most of \ the new spring models which show a V neck; With a round, square, or bateau neckline predominating, a short string of pearls could be worn, but with this new . and longer line, the string has to bo lengthened also. A favourite idea will be to twist the string once round the throat so that it clasps this tightly, and then to let tho remainder of the beads hang down below the waist. Another way will be to knot the string just at the point where the V decolletage ends. Another, to twist the string round the throat and let the remainder hang down the back, either loose or knotted.

Although coloured pearls are still the vogue, there is a reaction growing in favour of strings of pearls interspersed with cut or coloured fancy beads. Another favourite whim is to string large and small pearls together.
