REDFERN MURDER
AYES COMMITTED FOE, TEIAL,

SYDNEY, 4th May. At an inquest on Mrs. Quirk, the victim of the Redfenj tragedy, Alice Quirk, who was badly injured, gave evidence. She said Ayes several times asked her to marry him. When she refused he said no one- else would get her. On the- night of the tragedy lie again asked her, and she again refused. She then went to bed with her mother. Later sho was awakened liy a noise, and saw a man, whom she believed to be Ayes, standing in the room. She became frightened,, pulled. (ho bed-dothes over hey head, and did not remember anything moro till shu found herself in hospitai.
Tho Coroner returned a verdict of murder against Ayes, whom ho committed for trial.
I. Mrs. Quirk and her daughter were attacked by a man with a tomahawk, early on tho morning of 12th March and the former died shortly after admission to hospital.]
