ACCIDENTALLY SHOT

WHANGAREI, This Day. Evidence at the inquest concerning'the deatli of David Miller by accidental shooting at Mangapai on Friday night, disclosed a variation' of the first account. Herbert Stanley Carter, one of a number of sportsmen who assembled at deceased's home,, testified that, when demonstrating the action of a Winchester repeating rifle., with which he intended to go goat-hunting, he put a cartridge in the magazine. When closing the breach, his thumb came in contact with the trigger, causing an explosion. The bullet struck a chair, where deceas°d was sitting, and entered his left side, and made its exit below the right shoulder. A verdict was returned that-death was due to a wound, accidently inflicted by Carter.
