The May Day celebrations passed without serious trouble, owing to the precautions taken by the police, who arrested about a hundred supposed agitators. A mass' meeting of workers, including women and Koreans, passed a resolution urging, inter alia, the repealing of the Peace Preservation Act and the'organising of a National Labour Federation. Ten thousand people marched-in procession to Hydo Park, to participate in an international carnival. The demonstration was principally remarkable for the number of children carrying, the -lied Hag, and the foreign element, especi ally Jewish, who were unusually conspicuous, while a small body of Asiatics marched under a banner "demanding a free India. " ° THE BULGARIAN AGITATION At the conclusion of the demonstration a procession marched to the Bulgarian Legation, where, amid the singing of the "Red Flag," a protest was presented against the alleged persecution of Bulgarian workers. The crowd outside was regaled with speeches by leaders, including one from Mr. Ben Tillett. A slight melee resulted in the police clearing the pavement amid booing. A Bulgarian official, replying to the protest, declared that the stories of oppression were maliciously spread and were unworthy of credence.
