MOTHERCRAFT TRAINING SOCIETY

. A NOVEL SCHEME.

(PROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)- • LONDON, 25th March.--.-Following tho example of another wellknown hospital, the Molhc'rcraft Training Society is inaugurating a..novel, schnmo for the purpose of raising money, to help in tho purchaso^of the- very fine property at Highgato which, has now been taken over. Viscountess' Milner is inaugurating what is known.as:;* "vanishing" and luncheon tea-party;, I Among the ladies who are helping are the Duchess of Abercorn, Rhoda. Countess of Carlisle, Countess Spencer, Lady Dawson of Perm, the Hon. Mrs. John Coke, Lady Myers, Mrs. Chaplin, Mrs. Wellington Hay, Miss Maxse, and Miss Eudd. The principle of the scheme is for tha promoter to give a luncheon or a teaparty. All the guests, say, to tho number of twenty, are asked to bring Is or 2s 6d for the benefit of the society. Each; of the twenty guests then goes forth,! and invites nineteen to a party promoted by her (or him as the case may be). At this step there will be 380 guests in. twenty different houses, each bringing Is or 2s 6d. Each of tho 380 guests then in turn promotes a party of. her own,' of not more than eighteen guests. At this stage, i.* all goes well, there should bo 6840 guests at 380 different houses. The 6840 then ask seventcu guests to .their own respective parties. At this stage, i.hcu, _thero should bo 116,230 guests, all with' "is "or '2s~ 6d. Tho process continues until the last few millions invite only one guest. Allowance, of course, has to be made for deficiencies in numbers during the process, but even if the number of guests to start with is only ten, by the time the last one guest is asked there should be, in the case of a perfect working out of tho scheme, over 6.000,000 participating in the entertainmenst. The advertisement for the society is easy to see. As the society has adopted this method of collecting money while it is quite a, novelty, they should make a great success of it and soon be in the position, to build the quarters for nurses which are so badly, needed and pay off tho mortgage on Cromwell House.
