PLUNKET FETE AT TRENTHAM

The new Upper Hutt branch. of the Plunket Society held a successful carnival at Trentham on Saturday, in aid of funds for the support of a Plunket nurse in the district. The Tea Kiosk (kindly lent by the Wellington Racing Club) was fitted up with stalls and sideshows, and these were well patronised, while the Caledonian Pipe Band enlivenfld the proceedings with selections. A baby voting competition was run in connection with tho fete and brought in over £100, while a small procession in costume, headed by the pipers, marched from Upper Hutt, collecting en route During the afternoon, Dr. F. W. Kemp read a lotter of apology from Mr. \V. 11. Field, M.P. (who was-to'have opened the proceedings), and Mrs. Field, in which they regrottod their inability to attend. Dr. Kemp also announced the result of the baby voting—Baby M'Sweeney (Trontham, Heretaunga. and Silverstreani sports- candidate), bein<>the winner with 5424 votes; Baby Gropp (Wallaceville) was next with 1419 votes followed by Baby Campbell (Akatarawa) and- Baby Oliff (Upper Hutt), with 848 and 772 votes respectively. The decorated pram and bicycle section, arranged by Mrs. C.
