A PLEASANT GATHERING

On Saturday evening a, very pleasant gathering was held at Dustin's, Cuba street, when Mr. E. T. Taylor entertained a large number ot cx-navals from Wellington and Petonc. ex-members cf tho Wellington Navals Boating Society, and members of the 15th and 17th Battery, iT.Z. Artillery. Mr. Taylor presented a medal to each member of tho winning crews of the ''White Horse" Cup, 1924 Wellington, and 1925 Petone. The chair was taken by Major A. B. Hislop, who. in a very reminiscent speech referred to the good feeling which had always existed between tho two companies: the excellent attendance that night of old members was proof of that feeling. The King's health was proposed' by tho chairman, while the other toasts honoured were the donors, proposed ,by the chairman, and responded to by Mr. E. T. Taylor, on behalf of the While Horse Distilleries. Ltd.; "The ex-Wel-lington and ex-Petone Navnls," proposed by Captain J. Abel, and replied to by Messrs. F. Armstrong, K. Couper, A. M'Laren, and'others; "Tbo 15th and 17th Batteries," proposed by Mr. A. M'Laren. and replied to by Captains J. Abel and Kirk. As Mr. Taylor is leaving shortly on an extended tour of the Old Country, opportunity was taken, by members of the ex-navals to present him with framed photographs of the winning crews and a travelling rug. Eulogistic references were mado to the interest which Mr. Taylor has always displayed in both the Wellington and Petone" Navals, and to the generosity displayed by the White Horse Distillers, Ltd., in having presented such a valuable cup for competition. Various musical and elocutionary items helped to make tho eveniii" a very pleasant one. °
