...".-. Addressing a public meeting at Karori last night, Councillor H. D. Bennett said .many of the statements made by candidates provided amusing reading. The most grotesque was the statement that the rates had increased by an average of about £80,000 a year for the past four years, making a total increase of about ,£3.00,000, .in. that period. Mr. Bennett stated the figures as follow:—Total rates levied: 1920-21.' £247,431; 1921-22," £290,152; 1922-23, £289,868: 1923-24 £344,473; 1924-25, £357,039.
