JM'Kcoiu builder, of Wellington tor the erection of a large building- ar the corner of Dixon street and Inglewood place for Messrs. Hope Gibbons, Ltd The building will consist of eight storeys and basement and rise to the full height allowed under the bylaws. It will have a fiontage of 53 feet by 114 feet depth, and will be attached to the company's existing f>ve-story building. The construction will be finished with polished trachyte stone and the exterior, of imposing design, will be finished with polished trachyte stone and white cement plaster. All lift and stair wells will be enclosed with fireproof walls and doors, so that each .floor will-be separately n reproofed. Four electric lifts 1 and an up-to-date fire alarm system are to be installed, and an innovation as far as Wellington is concerned will bo a sys- £ n\ Of -,rOO<l IMltin" for the e^erior of the building. The floors not required for the extension of Messrs. Hope Gibbons's business will be subdivided for subletting purposes. Mr. J. M. Dawson, F.N.Z.I.A is the architect, and he has also been commissioned to design another large building in the vicinity for the Colonial Motor Company, Ltd. which will be nine storeys in height and of similar construction to Messrs. Hope Gibbons's building, hnt will cover a much greater area and will (form the Cour enay nlnce front to the present Ford Building.
