QUESTION.

(U.MTED PKESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.)

(REUTERS TELEGItAM.)

(Received 19th March, 10 a^m.)

LONDON, 18th March.

In theJSouse of Commons, asked whether any kind of understanding existed between the American and British naval authorities, and whether the possibility of American use of the proposed naval base at Singapore had ever been discussed, Mr. Austen Chamberlain, Foreign Minister, replied that the answer to the second part of the question was plainly in the negative. He was not sure whether he understood the first part, so he would confine himself to saying that so far as he knew, there was not now, and he hoped there never • would be; any misunderstanding between the British and American authorities.
