PROGRESS OF THE PREPARATIONS.

LONDON, 29th January: . .Substantial progress has been made ■with the preparation of Captain Scott's old ship, the. Discovery, for the work of the coming Antarctic Expedition. The ship will be undocked at Portsmouth in a few days, and taken to the Government dockyard to be fitted with her machinery and lower masts. When ready for sea the ship will go to Stanley and thence to South "Georgia, arriving there about the beginning of the whaling season in October. An extensive research into whaling in tin region of the Dependencies of the Falkland Islands will then be taken in hand. All the members of the staff are engaged in their respective preparations.
