IKVERCARGILL, 18th March. The initial tbtalisatof meeting of the Wyndham Trotting Club wub held to-day iv good \weather. The going was good, the recent rains having taken the sting out of the ground. The lields throughout were large, and the racing was always interesting. The totalisator investmeuts were £9070 for the day. Results:—

Ellis H. Cutting, believed to have been the last survivor of the Lieht Brigade on its immortal charge at tho Battle of Balaclava, in the Crimea* War, died at Cedar Eapids, lowa, on 7th December. He was 87 years old. Mr. Cutting joined the British Army when he was 16.
